Wisconsin, known as the Badger State, gained statehood on May 29, 1848 and became the 30th state in the nation. It’s located in the north-central part of the U.S. and is home to about 5.8 million citizens, making it the 20th most populous state. It’s also known as the dairy capital of the United States; it produces more milk than any other state in the country.

The capital of Wisconsin is Madison, the largest city is Milwaukee with a population of nearly 600,000, but perhaps the most well-known city in the state is Green Bay, famously known for its NFL team, the Green Bay Packers and the iconic Lambeau Field. In addition to fielding the champion of the first two Super Bowls, Green Bay is the state’s oldest city and also known as the toilet paper capital of the world!

Wisconsin is home to approximately 135,700 horses, a somewhat surprising number when considering the state’s continental climate with cold and snowy winters. The horse industry in the state is even estimated to generate around $1.75 billion in revenue. Despite the chilly weather, horse properties in Wisconsin are actually still rising in popularity. Many campgrounds are now becoming more horse-friendly and there’s over 700 miles of horse trails in the state parks and forests.
